- Pre-season wake-up call: Get yourself and your winter sports equipment ready for the season ahead
The hiking boots are still getting plenty of action, the days are pleasantly warm, and that first day on skis, a snowboard or touring skis still feels a long way off. But then, sometime in September, it happens: your mind starts drifting towards freshly groomed slopes, powder days and that irresistible sparkle of snow in the sunshine. Winter isn’t here just yet – but now is the perfect time to start waking yourself and your gear from summer mode. After all, your skis and snowboard aren’t the only things that could use a little pre-season attention. Your thighs will thank you, too. The great gear hunt: What’s hiding in the basement? Let’s start where winter spends its summer: in the basement, the garage or the attic. Found your skis, snowboard or touring skis? Great! Now give the bases and edges a closer look. Spotted some rust, deep scratches or other damage? Better to book a service now than the night before your first day on the slopes. Don’t forget the bindings, either. If you’re unsure whether they’re correctly adjusted and working as they should, have them checked by a professional. Next up: ski boots, touring boots or snowboard boots. Put them on and be honest with yourself: Do they actually fit properly? Especially with kids, it’s worth checking the size regularly – feet have an annoying habit of growing over the summer. Helmet and goggles can come out of hibernation, too. Does the helmet still fit properly? Is everything intact? Did your goggles make it through the summer scratch-free? Do they fit comfortably with your helmet? And finally, one of winter’s great mysteries: Where did you put those ski poles? Winter mode for your wardrobe Your ski, snowboard or ski touring wardrobe deserves a quick pre-season check, too. Are your base layers, mid layers – think fleece jackets or a cosy hoodie – and waterproof ski or snowboard jacket all still present and accounted for, or has something disappeared over the summer? Is everything still in good shape? If you wear a back protector or other protective gear, now is also a good time to check the fit and condition. And then there are the ski socks. If last season’s pairs are looking a little thin, stretched out or have mysteriously turned into single socks, you have our full permission to treat yourself to some new ones – for example from our own SNØXIS range. And finally, the ultimate pre-season challenge: trying on your ski pants. In September. With kids, a summer growth spurt can make things interesting. For adults… well, there may be other reasons for a few surprises. The great accessory treasure hunt And for the grand finale, it’s time for a little accessory treasure hunt: Where are the gloves? The extra-warm mittens? Balaclava? Beanie? Neck warmer? Touring skins? Track them down now and you won’t have to turn the entire house upside down on the morning of your first ski day. Our pro tip: Pack all the essentials straight into your ski backpack, so everything is ready to go when winter finally arrives. And if you’re still missing the right backpack? You might just find one at the Skibörse, too. By the way, we’ve put together a handy checklist for your first day on the slopes – have a look and make sure you’re all set! Keep it, fix it or let it go! Once you’ve checked everything, a simple three-pile system works wonders: Fits & stays: Everything looks good? Perfect – keep it within easy reach and let it wait patiently for winter. Needs some TLC: This is the pile that comes with its own little to-do list: get your skis serviced, fix that broken zipper, reproof your hardshell jacket, and take care of any other jobs you’ve been putting off. Time to move on: Kids’ skis that are too small, boots that no longer fit or gear that hasn’t seen snow in years can be passed on, donated or, if it’s no longer safe or usable, disposed of responsibly. Good to know: You’ll find plenty of pre-owned winter sports gear at our Skibörse. However, but private individuals can’t sell their own equipment at our events. Instead, we offer our own quality-checked pre-owned gear, freshly serviced and backed by a one-year warranty. So you can shop second-hand with a little extra peace of mind. Your gear Is ready – but are you? While your skis and board are getting their edges back in shape, it’s time to slowly switch your body into winter mode, too. Don’t worry: nobody expects you to be doing squats in ski boots or snowboard boots in your living room in September. But a little pre-season training can make that first day on the slopes a whole lot more enjoyable. So, where to start? Skiing and snowboarding put your legs, core, balance and endurance to work. Squats, lunges, planks and balance exercises are easy to work into your everyday routine. Cycling, hiking, running or even brisk walking can also help build strength and improve your overall endurance. And the good news? There’s still plenty of time. Start in September and fit in a few exercises two or three times a week, and you won’t find yourself trying to squeeze three months of training into three days come December. Your legs will thank you! Get ready now, enjoy winter later Winter isn’t here yet – and that’s exactly the advantage. There’s still plenty of time to figure out what fits, what’s missing and what needs a service. Meanwhile, your legs, core and stamina can slowly get reacquainted with winter sports, too. So, open the basement, dig out your gear, try on those ski pants – and maybe throw in a few squats while you’re at it. Winter can take its time. We’ll be getting ready in the meantime!

- 26 new year's resolutions for skiers and snowboarders
New year, fresh snow, same love for the mountains ... and the same little bad habits? If you’re a skier or snowboarder, the new year is the perfect opportunity to sharpen your habits on the mountain. Here are 26 resolutions for 2026 — a mix of good intentions, non-negotiable musts, and ideas that will help you get more out of every winter day. 1. Warm up before your first run Yes, it’s boring. Yes, it works. Two or three minutes of moving your body beats spending the whole day wondering why your knees are mad at you. Include a few squats, leg swings, and twists get your body ready. 2. Take good care of your equipment Your skis, boots or boards work hard all day—so give them a little love after every session. Dry bases and edges, take boot liners out, and brush off snow before storing everything. Regular waxing and tuning don’t just extend the life of your gear, they also make riding smoother and more fun. 3. Travel smarter to the mountains Public transport or car sharing means fewer traffic jams, less parking stress, and a calmer start to the day. A relaxed morning sets the tone. 4. Don’t forget sunscreen Snow reflects sunlight like it’s personal. Even on cloudy days. Even in winter. Trust us on this one. Pro tip: go for sunscreen made for cold conditions (without water). It protects your skin better, even in wind and freezing temperatures. 5. Take more breaks No one’s handing out medals for “most runs without stopping.” Grab a drink, enjoy the view, stretch your legs, and remember why you’re here. Sitting in the sun with a drink, watching others ski, fully counts as part of the experience. 6. Stay hydrated (yes, with non-alcoholic drinks) A few sips here and there keep your legs working, your head clear, and your mood surprisingly better. Water and tea might not look exciting, but they do more for your day than you think. 7. Read the slope rules again — and follow them You probably learned them once. Maybe years ago. A quick reminder helps everyone share the slopes without stress, shouting, or awkward near-misses. 8. Ride at a comfortable speed when it’s crowded (this one’s a must) Crowded slopes aren’t the place to prove anything. Controlled turns, good awareness, and a bit of patience make the day safer — and way more relaxed for everyone involved. 9. Put the phone away during rides Yes, that clip would be cool. But focusing on the slope, the snow, and the people around you is cooler. Ride first, post later — the mountain doesn’t need retakes. 10. Make conversation on the lift Say hello, comment on the snow, ask where they’re from. Chairlift small talk with strangers can be awkward, hilarious, or surprisingly inspiring—and sometimes it’s the best part of the day. 11. Be patient in lift lines Everyone’s excited and ready to go. A little patience and friendly behavior make busy days feel a lot less hectic. 12. Respect closed areas and signs (also a must) If it says closed , it’s not a secret invitation. Closed usually means dangerous, unstable, or protected. Ignoring signs rarely ends where you planned — and often affects more people than just you. 13. Take a no-pressure day Not everything needs to be measured. No apps, no goals, no comparing stats. Just riding, stopping when you feel like it, and enjoying the snow without expectations is surprisingly refreshing. 14. Leave no trace Snack wrappers, tissues, and “just this one thing” don’t belong in the mountains. Taking everything back down helps keep these places beautiful — and open. 15. Greet and thank lift operators and mountain staff They work early mornings, late evenings, and all kinds of weather so we can have fun. A smile or a quick thank-you costs nothing and means a lot. 16. Try something new every day A lesson, a different run, a new style, or even just a new route down. Small changes keep things exciting and help you grow without pressure. 17. End the day while it’s still fun Leaving while you’re still smiling beats pushing until exhaustion, cold fingers, or frustration take over. You’ll remember the good feeling — not the extra run. 18. Take a quiet moment just to look around No photos, no rushing, no plans. Just you, the snow, and the mountains doing what they do best. These moments last longer than any clip. 19. For freeriders: never leave safety equipment at home (a must) Transceiver, shovel, probe — every single time. Not because it’s cool, but because it’s necessary. Powder days are only fun when everyone comes home safe. 20. Always check conditions before you head out (also a must) Weather forecasts and avalanche reports aren’t buzzkills — they’re tools. Five minutes of checking beats hours of bad decisions later. 21. Never overestimate yourself Confidence is great. Honest self-assessment is better. Choose terrain that matches your skills, your energy, and the conditions — not your ego. 22. Say no when something doesn’t feel right Find the courage to say no to a line, a speed, or a plan. Trusting your gut isn’t weakness — it’s experience talking. 23. Support local businesses — or bring your own snacks Alpine huts, cafés, and local shops are part of mountain culture. And if you’re on a budget, a packed snack with a view works just as well. 24. No one has time? Ride alone! Solo days can be calm, focused, and surprisingly empowering. You set the pace, choose the runs, and listen only to yourself (and the snow). 25. Be social and show support Following your favorite resort, skier, freerider, snowboarder, or local business is easy but might make a real impact. Like, comment, share. 26. Remember why you love this The snow, the mountains, and that stupid grin you get halfway down a good run ... Final thought — or 26 recommendations in short: Ride with respect. Laugh often. Go home happy. That’s a good day in the mountains.

- Shred the slopes, not your stuff: How to properly care for your winter sports gear
Winter sports enthusiasts know: The right gear is everything! Keep your skis, snowboards, touring skis, boots and apparel in top shape and ready to perform all season: Here are the best care tips – short and snappy. Skis, snowboards & touring skis: Wax on, fun on! Cleaning : After each use, wipe off dirt, snow and maybe even salt with a dry cloth. Warm water works for stubborn grime, but make sure to dry your edges carefully. Edges and base : Sharp edges ensure grip. Keep the base waxed for a smooth ride. Learn how to wax your gear yourself or get some help in a sports shop and you're good to go! Summer storage : Store your gear in a dry place, release the bindings, and protect the base with storage wax. Boots: Keep them fresh and dry Drying : Take out the liners after each day on the slope or in the backcountry and let them air dry. Boot dryers are a great option. Care : Keep the exterior clean by brushing off dirt with water. Storage : Store in a dry, ventilated place – never while damp. Functional clothing: Wash gently and take good care Washing : Wash functional clothing with special detergent, but fabric softener is a no-go. Use a gentle cycle and low temperatures. Re-waterproofing : For your waterproof hard shell, reapply water-repellent treatments after a few washes. Sprays or wash-in treatments work best. Drying : Air-dry whenever possible. If allowed, a tumble dry on low can reactivate waterproofing. Merino clothing: Less washing, more airing out Air out your merino pieces instead of washing them – merino wool stays fresh for longer. When necessary, use the gentle cycle with wool detergent. Drying : Lay flat to dry; avoid the dryer. Protection : Store clean and dry, ideally with moth protection. Goggles: Keep your vision clear Cleaning : Only use a microfiber cloth to clean the glasses, never gloves or tissues. For tough spots, we recommend water. Storage : Always store goggles in a case to prevent scratches, and never leave them wet or loose in your bag. Helmet: Protect the protector Cleaning : You can clean the outside of your helmet with a damp cloth. Often, it's possible to wash the padding. Check : Your helmet must always be in perfect condition. Any cracks or hard impacts? Better get a new one. Storage : Keep your helmet in a dry, shaded place – helmets don’t like UV rays. Wrap-up Proper care of your gear and apparel is the key to fun and safety on the slopes. With just a little effort, you’ll start every season fully prepped and have fun with your equipment and apparel a long time. Take care and have fun!
