- Shred the slopes, not your stuff: How to properly care for your winter sports gear
Winter sports enthusiasts know: The right gear is everything! Keep your skis, snowboards, touring skis, boots and apparel in top shape and ready to perform all season: Here are the best care tips – short and snappy. Skis, snowboards & touring skis: Wax on, fun on! Cleaning : After each use, wipe off dirt, snow and maybe even salt with a dry cloth. Warm water works for stubborn grime, but make sure to dry your edges carefully. Edges and base : Sharp edges ensure grip. Keep the base waxed for a smooth ride. Learn how to wax your gear yourself or get some help in a sports shop and you're good to go! Summer storage : Store your gear in a dry place, release the bindings, and protect the base with storage wax. Boots: Keep them fresh and dry Drying : Take out the liners after each day on the slope or in the backcountry and let them air dry. Boot dryers are a great option. Care : Keep the exterior clean by brushing off dirt with water. Storage : Store in a dry, ventilated place – never while damp. Functional clothing: Wash gently and take good care Washing : Wash functional clothing with special detergent, but fabric softener is a no-go. Use a gentle cycle and low temperatures. Re-waterproofing : For your waterproof hard shell, reapply water-repellent treatments after a few washes. Sprays or wash-in treatments work best. Drying : Air-dry whenever possible. If allowed, a tumble dry on low can reactivate waterproofing. Merino clothing: Less washing, more airing out Air out your merino pieces instead of washing them – merino wool stays fresh for longer. When necessary, use the gentle cycle with wool detergent. Drying : Lay flat to dry; avoid the dryer. Protection : Store clean and dry, ideally with moth protection. Goggles: Keep your vision clear Cleaning : Only use a microfiber cloth to clean the glasses, never gloves or tissues. For tough spots, we recommend water. Storage : Always store goggles in a case to prevent scratches, and never leave them wet or loose in your bag. Helmet: Protect the protector Cleaning : You can clean the outside of your helmet with a damp cloth. Often, it's possible to wash the padding. Check : Your helmet must always be in perfect condition. Any cracks or hard impacts? Better get a new one. Storage : Keep your helmet in a dry, shaded place – helmets don’t like UV rays. Wrap-up Proper care of your gear and apparel is the key to fun and safety on the slopes. With just a little effort, you’ll start every season fully prepped and have fun with your equipment and apparel a long time. Take care and have fun!

- How to get ready for Skibörse: 10 tips for a smooth shopping experience
Heading to one of our Skibörse events is an exciting way to gear up for your ski, snowboard or touring season without breaking the bank. To make sure you leave with exactly what you need, a little prep goes a long way. Here are ten simple tips to ensure your Skibörse experience is a full success. 1. Set a budget before you go It’s easy to get caught up in all the great deals, but setting a budget before you go will help you choose your perfect skis or board. Maybe you go for a cheaper second-hand ski and still have budget for new merino base layers, a pair of warm gloves or any other thing you need. 2. Visit outside of rush hours Avoid the crowd by visiting during off-peak times. This way, you’ll have more time to browse, try on gear, and make thoughtful decisions without feeling rushed. Plus: Our staff will have more time to give you advice. However, if you are looking for the maximum selection, you should visit the Skibörse on the (usually busy) first day. 3. Chat with our staff for expert advice Don’t hesitate to ask our staff for advice: They will recommend the best gear for your level, or help you make sure the skis, boots, or apparel you’re considering are the right fit for your needs. Again, it's best to visit outside rush hours. 4. Bring a friend for a second opinion A trusted friend can be a lifesaver when deciding on the perfect fit or style. Plus, they’ll help you stay objective while navigating all the tempting deals. And: the more the merrier. 5. Looking for goggles? Bring your helmet! Goggles need to fit snugly with your helmet, so don’t forget to bring it along! A proper fit ensures no gaps for wind or snow, giving you maximum comfort on the slopes. Try the goggles on with your helmet to make sure everything aligns perfectly. 6. Shopping for apparel? Bring a piece to match! Want your new jacket or ski pants to pair well with what you already own? Bring along an existing item for easy color and fit comparison. It’ll save you from mismatches and ensure a coordinated, stylish look on the slopes. 7. Buying skis? Know your boot size! Bindings need to be adjusted to fit your boots, so make sure you know your boot size (in mm) or bring your boots along. This guarantees that your new skis will be set up for safety and performance right from the start. 8. Wear easy-to-slip-in-and-out clothing Since you’ll likely be trying on different jackets, pants and boots, wear something comfortable and easy to slip in and out of, like leggings or a light shirt. This will speed up the process and make trying things on hassle-free. 9. Bring a backpack or large bag You might end up buying more than you anticipated! ;-) Bringing a backpack or large tote will help you easily carry around the items you’re purchasing. 10. Cash or card? Our Skibörse events accept both cash and card payments. If you’re planning on using a card, ensure your spending limit is high enough to cover the gear you’re eyeing. With these tips, you're now equipped to navigate the Skibörse like a pro! Happy shopping and good luck finding exactly what you wish for!

- The art of layering - or how to dress for skiing, snowboarding, ski touring and winter hiking
When you're heading out for an active winter day, the right clothing is key to staying warm, dry, and comfortable—whether you're hitting the slopes, exploring the backcountry on a ski tour or trekking through snowy trails. The secret? Mastering the art of layering. Layering is the perfect strategy for balancing warmth with breathability - and it’s budget-friendly too. With just a few essential pieces (get one of each layer, maybe a couple of base and mid-layers), you can mix and match to suit any condition. The game plan: layer up like a pro 1. Base layer: the foundation for comfort Your base layer is the foundation of your outfit, responsible for managing moisture. Choose a fabric like merino wool or a high-performance synthetic that wicks sweat away from your skin. This helps keep you dry and prevents that uncomfortable, clammy feeling. Remember, cotton is a no-go—it traps moisture and will leave you feeling cold. 2. Mid layer: your insulating hero Next comes the mid layer, which provides crucial insulation. It traps your body heat while letting moisture escape, keeping you warm without overheating. A fleece jacket or an insulated synthetic down layer works wonders here. For high-energy activities like ski touring, go for a lightweight fleece. For colder, less active days on the slopes, a thicker option is your best bet. 3. Outer layer: your shield against the elements The outer layer is all about protection. Choose a jacket and pants that are waterproof and windproof to shield yourself from snow, wind, and rain. Look for materials like Gore-Tex that offer breathability while keeping out the elements. If you're ski touring, a shell jacket with ventilation zippers is a great choice to help regulate your temperature during intense climbs. Of course, you can also choose warm jackets for maximum comfort on cold days on the slope or in the city. Accessories: the finishing touches Accessories can make or break your comfort level, so don’t skip them. A good pair of waterproof gloves or mittens, a warm hat, and a neck gaiter or balaclava keep your extremities protected from the cold. For skiing and snowboarding, goggles are a must to protect your eyes from snow and glare. If you’re winter hiking, a good pair of sunglasses might do the trick. And of course, helmets are highly recommended for safety on the slopes and in the backcountry. Boots: finding the perfect fit The right boots can make all the difference in skiing, ski touring and snowboarding. Make sure they fit well, provide adequate support, and offer good insulation. If you need help finding the perfect pair, our experienced staff can guide you to the best options for your feet and activity level. Note: At some Skibörse events, we also offer shoes for trailrunning, hiking and mountaineering. However, the number is quite limited. Ready, Set, Go! By dressing in layers and choosing the right materials, you'll be set for a full day of winter fun without letting the cold hold you back. Gear up right, and every adventure can be your best one yet! P.S.: Need advice? Come to the Skibörse events, we will help you to find your perfect outfit!
- A guide to the different types of skis and snowboards: find the perfect fit (new or second-hand) at the Skibörse
When it comes to skiing, snowboarding and ski touring, the type of equipment you choose can greatly impact your performance and enjoyment on the slopes and in the backcountry. Whether you’re carving down groomed trails, floating through powder, racing up a mountain or tackling challenging terrains, there’s a perfect pair of skis or snowboard at the Skibörse for you. Types of skis – and of course available at the Skibörse All-mountain skis These versatile skis are designed to perform well in a variety of conditions, from groomed slopes to soft snow to light powder. They are the go-to choice for most skiers, offering a balance between stability, control, and maneuverability. Ideal for skiers who enjoy exploring different parts of the mountain without switching gear. Carving skis These skis are designed for making sharp, precise turns on groomed slopes. They are narrower, with a pronounced sidecut, which helps in maintaining edge control at high speeds. Ideal for advanced skiers who enjoy carving tight turns and maintaining speed on well-maintained trails. Freeride skis Built for off-piste adventures, freeride skis are wider and more flexible, making them perfect for deep powder and varied terrain. They offer excellent floatation and are a favorite among those who love to explore untracked snow. Ideal for advanced skiers who prefer backcountry skiing or venturing off the groomed trails. Powder skis As the name suggests, these skis are built for deep powder. They are significantly wider than other types, providing maximum surface area for floatation in deep snow. Ideal for powder enthusiasts who frequently ski in areas with heavy snowfall. Touring skis Lightweight and equipped with special bindings, touring skis are designed for uphill travel and downhill rides, be it in the backcountry or on slopes. Ideal for adventurers who enjoy both the climb and the descent, and those who seek the solitude of backcountry skiing. Freestyle skis The go-to choice for those who love to get creative! Freestyle skis are lighter and shorter, often come with a twin-tip design that's curved up at both ends and are perfect for tricks, jumps and spins in the park or halfpipe. These skis are super agile and give you the freedom to perfect your moves, whether you're grinding rails or catching air. Ideal for anyone who feels at home in the snow park and loves to push their limits! Types of snowboards - and of course available at the Skibörse All-mountain snowboards These boards are the most versatile, suitable for all types of terrain, whether you’re riding groomed runs, powder, or even in the park. They offer a balanced flex and shape that makes them adaptable to various snow conditions. Ideal for riders who like to use their boards in all conditions. Freestyle snowboards Designed for tricks and jumps, freestyle boards are shorter, more flexible and lighter. They excel in terrain parks and are ideal for those who love to perform aerials and other tricks. Ideal for snowboarders who spend most of their time in the park or even in the halfpipe. Freeride snowboards Description: These boards are stiffer and longer, providing stability at high speeds and in deep powder. They are directional, meaning they are designed to be ridden primarily in one direction. Ideal for riders who enjoy off-piste terrain and deep powder snow. Powder snowboards Description: With a wider nose and tapered tail, powder boards are specifically designed to float on deep snow. They offer exceptional performance in backcountry conditions. Ideal for powder hounds who seek fresh snow and untracked lines.
